This is stating the obvious, but I wanted to point out a couple important things you should do in Instagram to help you grow your audience.

First, make sure you have a properly filled out profile. You want to have your name and bio so that people can get a sense of who you are! If you don’t want to use your real name, put in your blog’s or IG handle.

I also suggest having your location or a descriptor in your name. This helps your name pop up in search results. For example, if you search “ATX”, you’ll see several accounts pop up that don’t actually have “ATX” in their handle:

Apps to Improve your Instagram: Planning

Planoly is one of the best tools for planning out your Instagram feed! It helps you layout your photos and schedule them all in one place! When someone clicks to your profile, they’re going to take one quick look at your photos and decide whether or not to follow you.

Which would you be more inclined to follow, the left or the right? Chances are you’d choose the right — partly because the photos are better quality, but also it flows together really well. The left was from two years ago when I was just starting out!

Planoly has an app and desktop version that sync really well. It also has a tool that helps monetize your posts with linking products (similar to liketoknow.it). I haven’t personally used it, but I’ve heard good things!

It also has tools to help you discover new hastags and see analytics on your account. Try out Planoly here.

Mosaico is another Instagram layout app that lets you plan your feed too. It’s free for one account, but doesn’t have as many features as Planoly does.

One of my favorite parts of this app is that it let’s you go into “ghost mode” meaning you can hide certain photos and shuffle around pictures without actually deleting them.

Apps to Improve your Instagram: Photo Editing

Where Planoly helps you plan out your feed, VSCO is a great app for helping you get that uniformity your photos with a multitude of easy to use filters!

It comes with several free filters, and many others that are available for purchase.

Lightroom is part of the Adobe Suite, and the best photo editing app in my opinion. It takes a little more skill to use than VSCO, but it’s worth it.

This is my second favorite must have photo app. It’s great for whitening you teeth, making your eyes pop, smoothing skin, making hair fuller, brightening, etc.

Note: I use the old version of FaceTune, not the crazy 2.0 one that you’ve likely seen advertised on Instagram… You know, the one that completely changes your entire face. I do not encourage doing that. I use FaceTune just to do small touch-ups, nothing that extreme.

Retouch is super helpful when it comes to removing unwanted lines or objects in a photo. For example, it easily edits out the power lines in the below example:

And if for some crazy reason I wanted to edit Lola (my pup enjoying a swim) out of the photo too, I can do that with a swipe of a finger!

Huji is the BEST app for low light shots! It adds a cool 90s filter that just makes everything look better! Here are just some of my favorite shots using HUJI:

QuickShot can do some really cool things with the sky in your photos! Most of the filters do require you to upgrade to a paid subscription, but its only $19.99 for the entire year.

QuickShot also helps with portraits and adds that nice blurred background (kinda like the portrait mode on an iPhone).

This is another photo editing app that I haven’t gotten into but a lot of people swear by it!

I noticed in the app it has a lot of features for enhancing landscapes like HDR, as well as portraits with skin smoothing, eye clarity, and glow.

I don’t personally use ColorStory a lot, but I know a lot of bloggers that enjoy the filters on the app which is why I thought it was worth mentioning

Apps to Improve your Instagram: Stories

The Hype Type app lets you up your Instagram story game! It adds cool animation to type in your stories!

Unfold is another great app that can make your Instagram stories stand out! It has lots of templates that allow you to drag and drop different photos and text types.

This app has tons of different layouts that can be customized to almost any size (Pinterest, Instagram stories, Facebook, etc).

Add your own photos and customize the fonts and colors!

From the makers of ColorStory, this is another great app for upping your IG stories! You can do cool brush effects:

Use way more fonts than the IG app has

And add a bunch of cool different stickers!

Sometimes it can be difficult to capture everything in the 15 second video limit on Instagram. CutStory app helps you string those videos together for your stories or posts!

It will also format your videos to different sizes depending on where you’re going to be posting it!

So there ya have it, 15 apps to improve your Instagram! Did I miss any of your favorites? I always want to hear about new apps, so let me know in the comments!

  1. I found a wonderful collection of Instagram captions on the promosound website. The ideas are very creative and help make posts more interesting. I especially liked the options for the summer months on promosoundgroup.net – they are so warm and atmospheric. I recommend it to anyone looking for inspiration for their social media!

  2. Not trying to promote anything here, I’m genuinely wondering if bookvip is legit or just another travel scam dressed up with nice marketing. They advertise crazy cheap vacations, but from what I can tell, there’s always a catch — usually some required timeshare presentation. I don’t have a problem with that in theory, but I’ve read mixed things: some people say it’s worth it, others say they got hit with hidden fees or couldn’t get the dates they wanted.

  3. This list is super helpful – thank you! I already use VSCO and Lightroom, but I hadn’t heard of Mosaico or CutStory before. Definitely going to try them out. Planning and editing really make a difference on IG!

  4. Love how you’re exploring outdoor style and active life through golf gear—it’s clear that staying both fashionable and purposeful is key. And if you’re looking to merge competitive play with community experience, maybe take a moment to Boostmatch and see how team cohesion and high‑level gaming go hand in hand.

  5. Great list of apps, convenient and easy to follow. Tools like these really help creators improve content quality and engagement without overcomplicating the process. Similar live and creator-focused tools are also becoming important for people who rely on real-time interaction and audience growth.

  6. Great list! Apps definitely help with editing, analytics, and scheduling, but one thing that often gets overlooked is how your name and bio actually look. A clean, eye-catching username can instantly improve first impressions. I’ve found tools like https://thestylishname.com/ useful for creating Unicode-based stylish text that you can copy and paste straight into your Instagram name or bio. Small visual tweaks like this can really elevate your overall profile presence.

  7. Finding the perfect stylish name used to be so frustrating, but not anymore! https://thestylishnames.com/ has completely changed the game. This platform is not just a simple name generator it’s a complete creative hub where you can find unique and eye-catching names for every platform. Whether it’s Free Fire, PUBG, Twitter, or YouTube, the tool delivers stunning results within seconds. I personally loved the King and Queen name generator sections super creative and fun! The website design is clean, fast, and very user-friendly. Even the blog section has some really helpful guides. If you are someone who wants to make a strong impression online with a cool and stylish name, this is the only website you will ever need. Absolutely love it! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
