When planning my trip to Europe, I was worried about staying connected/having WiFi in order to keep up with my blog, Instagram, and a full-time job. And since I was going to be jumping around to so many different countries, a SIM card wasn’t a great option. After doing some research, I found an awesome WiFi hotspot for travelers: Skyroam.
Skyroam is a portable WiFi hotspot that allows travelers and digital nomads to easily access WiFi in over 130 countries — with no contracts! I am so glad I found this company and was pumped to partner with them while traveling through Europe and I will continue to use it for all future trips!
So what makes Skyroam so great?
It's Portable and Easy to Use
The Skyroam Solis (what I used during my trip) is about the size of a hockey puck, making it super portable! I carried it around in my purse all day, it was convenient and I didn’t even have to think about it.
I do think it is probably a little too big to fit into a pocket, so that’s something to keep in mind if you don’t plan on carrying a backpack or purse throughout the day. Personally, I always have a bag when I’m traveling so it wasn’t an issue.
Flexible WiFi Plans
Another option is the GoData plan. For $9 a month, you get 1GB of 4G LTE WiFi. Use as much as you like, and top up anytime for just $9/GB.
If you are going to be traveling a lot or have a long trip planned (more than 11 days), the best option is the Unlimited Monthly Subscription. For $99 you get unlimited global WiFi for 30 days. Looking back, this probably would have been the best option for me!
You read that right: Unlimited data! With the Skyroam hotspot data plans, you get 24 hours of unlimited global mobile data. It is important to note that they do follow standard Fair Use Policy, here it is explained from their website:
“To ensure we optimize our data network to provide the best speeds to the most number of customers worldwide, we practice an industry standard Fair Use Policy, consistent with most mobile carrier and broadband company policies for mobile data usage. Because our network is a limited resource, customers who take a disproportionately high amount of data may experience reduced network speeds, based on location and service, so that we protect Fair Usage for all. To ensure you have uninterrupted high speed data, we strongly recommend disabling apps and features that consume data in the background, including cloud syncing, large system updates, auto-backups, auto-app updates, and avoid extended use of video streaming, gaming and other online activities that consume large amounts of data.“
Available in Over 130 Countries
The best part of Skyroam is that it automatically connects to the best local signal wherever you are in the world! No more worrying about changing SIM cards. To check if Skyroam works in the destinations you are traveling to, visit their website here.
It is important to note that there are several places that Skyroam will not work (basically anywhere you wouldn’t normally have service). Unfortunately, it won’t work on flights or cruise ships because those rely on satellite technology.
Connect to Multiple Devices
I have the Skyroam Solis and it allows you to connect up to 5 devices, which was more than enough for me and my partner!
The new Skyroam Solis X was just released and it allows you to connect twice as many — up to 10 different devices!
Not only does it have a long battery life, the Skyroam Solis also doubles as a power bank as well! It has an embedded 6000 mAh power bank with a USB-C connection.
So you can connect your phone AND charge it, all with one device!
You Can Rent a Skyroam Device
Don’t travel often? You can rent a Skyroam device instead of buying one! Though honestly, if you travel more than a couple times per year, it’s worth it to buy the device!
Have any additional questions about Skyroam or using it while traveling? Feel free to comment below or DM me on Instagram! I really think this is such a great device for avid travelers that need to stay connected!
Hope you’ve found it helpful!
