Colorado Packing List for Summer: Clothes
Tops
When planning what to wear in Colorado during the summer, it’s all about layering! It is still pretty cool in the mornings/evenings, but can hot in the middle of the day. I suggest packing:
- 2-3 t-shirts
- 2-3 tank tops/workout tops
- 1-2 sweatshirts
- 2-3 sweaters
I linked a couple of my faves below, they’re also (along with a bunch more) all added to this Colorado Packing List on Amazon.

Bottoms
When it comes to what bottoms to pack for a summer Colorado trip, you especially want to pack ones that you’ll be comfortable hiking in if that’s in your plan! I brought a mix of leggings and biker shorts for hiking. Here’s what I packed:
- 1-2 pairs of jeans
- 1 pair of casual shorts
- 4-5 pairs of workout bottoms
Jackets
Weather can be unpredictable in Colorado in the summer, so it’s important to bring rain jacket. I also brought a lightweight shell jacket just in case I got cold and ended up using it more than I thought I would!

Shoes
We knew we wouldn’t be doing any major hikes, so I opted to bring trail running shoes instead of hiking boots. If you prefer hiking boots then that’s totally fine too! Here are the shoes I packed:
- Trail Running Shoes or Hiking Boots
- 1 pair Nice Sandals
- 1 pair Casual Sneakers (I bring my Keds everywhere)
Trail Running Shoes
I got a ton of recommendation for trail running shoes, the most popular brand was Merrell. Nike, New Balance, Saucony, ASICS, and Brooks, and ALRTA were also highly recommended.
I linked the most popular and high rated trail running shoes on Amazon here (plus even more on this list):
