On my recent trip to Winter Park Resort, we also stayed a night at Devil’s Thumb Ranch — a beautiful mountain resort on 6,000 acres of beautiful Colorado wilderness. Devil’s Thumb Ranch truly is a beautiful, rustic ranch resort with modern, luxurious amenities!

Staying at Devil's Thumb Ranch

We stayed in the High Lonesome Lodge in a room with two queen beds and a balcony with gorgeous views of the mountains!

The bathroom had a walk-in, rock shower and huge bathtub — perfect for soaking after cross country skiing!

Right outside our room was this cute and cozy fire pit.

Cross Country Skiing at Devil's Thumb Ranch
Devil’s Thumb Ranch was just named the #1 Cross Country Skiing Resort by USA Today! So of course, when you visit, you must cross country ski at least once!

Neither Shelly nor I had ever cross country skied, so we were a little nervous about doing it, but after booking a lesson, we picked it up in no time!

Our instructor was so kind and very patient with us. I was convinced cross country skiing was going to be really difficult and unenjoyable, but we actually had a great time!

We mostly stayed on flat open areas, but it was a great work out with even better views surrounding us!

Group lessons are $40/person for one hour with multiple time slots throughout the day. You can also book a one-hour private lesson for $50/person. They have equipment available for rental.

Eating at Devil's Thumb Resort
We tried out two of the restaurants on site, and both were really good!

We had lunch and dinner at Heck’s Tavern. They have a variety of different options, with the star of the menu being their Wagyu beef — they have their own herd grazing right on the ranch!
I had the Wagyu beef burger and it was delicious! We also got the fried zucchini and would recommend those as well!

For dinner, you are encouraged to make a reservation. You can either call 970-726-7013 or book it online.

When it’s cold, they light the giant fire place in the middle of the restaurant!

It was dark in the restaurant at dinner so my pictures aren’t as good as the others, but the food and drinks were great!

We ate at Hallowed Grounds Coffee Shop for breakfast the next morning. It has coffee, lattes, tea, chai, etc. and typical cafe food. I had the bagel and lox and really liked it!

Ranch Creek Spa + Pool
Shelly had a massage at the Ranch Creek Spa and said she really enjoyed it!

They also have a big heated pool and hot tub. I thought it would be too cold to actually enjoy it, but that warm water feels AMAZING!

Overall, I would highly recommend staying at Devil’s Thumb Ranch Resort and Spa if you’re looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway. We loved our time there and would definitely return in the future!
