As someone who doesn’t normally travel to cold places, I was a little lost on what to pack for my ski trip to Winter Park Resort. After much research and experiencing it myself, I’d have to say this is pretty darn good list of everything you should pack for a winter ski trip!
BONUS: I’ve included a link to my winter ski trip packing check list Google Doc. You can make a copy and customize it for yourself + download and print it! I will include a link at the end of the post too.

What to Pack for a Winter Ski Trip: Clothing
Heavy Duty Winter/Ski Jacket + Pants

PS – 90% of the photos in this post were taken by the amazingly talented photographer (and one of my favorite travel buddies), Shelly Borga!
Needing to pack a heavy-duty jacket on a ski trip is pretty obvious, but if you’re concerned with spending hundreds and hundreds of dollars for only a couple of days of skiing, then you’re in luck…

Introducing Kit Lender: basically like rent the runway but for ski gear! You can rent an entire ski/snowboard set for as low as $35/a day! My Patagonia set would have normally cost almost $600… renting was a way better option for me!

And the best part? Kit Lender ships it for FREE directly to your hotel! Meaning you don’t have to worry about packing ski gear in your luggage and it taking up so much room!
Our sets were waiting for us on our beds when we arrived at Devil’s Thumb Ranch — so easy!

Once you’re done, they include a return label and tape so you can ship it back to them (again for free)! I would absolutely recommend Kit Lender for your next ski trip!
Kit Lender provided a kit for Shelly and I on our Winter Park Trip in exchange for writing about my experience using them, however, all my opinions are my own 🙂
Warm Base Layers
Long johns, warm long sleeve shirts, etc.
I recommend Hot Chillys brand! They are a little pricier than a normal undershirt would cost, but my Pepper woman’s top that I bought over 6 years ago, keeps me SO warm and I still use it to this day! They also have bottoms as well.
Shell / Casual Jacket
If you rent from Kit Lender, many of the kits come with a shell type jacket (like the navy one in the photo above or white below). Packing a second light(er)-weight jacket is not only good for layering, but also for times when it might be warmer during the day.
Amazon Essentials brand has some for great values: this long coat is less than $75 and this short hooded one is only $45! If you’re OK with splurging, The North Face is probably my favorite.

I also packed this teddy jacket on our ski trip that I got on Amazon. Believe it or not, this thing keeps you crazy warm! Plus it’s cute 😉 If you get the one I linked, definitely size up — it looks best worn oversized (I’m ordered an XL, but normally wear a medium).

Snow Boots
You are DEFINITELY going to need to get some snow boots that are waterproof. I debated whether I would or not I needed to pack them, and am SO glad I did. I found these cute ones relatively cheap on Amazon!

PS – the laces that come with them aren’t the best, so I bought a red pair of shoelaces that were way better quality.
Wool Socks
Wool socks keep your feet a lot warmer than normal socks would. I got these ones because they had cute patterns and were really reasonably priced!
Beanie/Hat
I am extra and had like 5 different hats/beanies with me for a 4-day winter ski trip, but my favorite one was hands down this double pom-pom one! I cannot tell you how many compliments I got on it over the weekend we were there!

These are some of my favorites that I’ve found! Linked everything here as well.
And my sweet friend Karissa hand knits amazing hats too… Check out her Etsy shop!
Sweaters
Sweaters are really great for layering! I packed bright and colorful ones, because I think they contrast nicely against the snow — especially for photos! I’ve linked my a ton of my favorites on this list.

Fleece lined leggings are great for layering under ski pants, jeans, or wearing by themselves! The fleece adds extra warmth that normal leggings don’t have. Definitely add these to your winter trip packing list!
Gloves/Mittens
Save yourself a lot of hassle and be sure to get touchscreen friendly ones. You’ll need heavier duty gloves for skiing, but my Kit Lender kit came with them!

Swimsuit
I’m sure you’re thinking “Swimsuit!? What’s she talking about?!” But let me tell ya… there is nothing better after a long day of skiing than soaking in a hot tub. Trust me, bring a swimsuit.

These are some of my favorites from Amazon.
Neck Warmer (Neck Gaiter or Scarf)
If you’re skiing or especially snowmobiling, a neck gaiter is an absolute must have item! It keeps your face and neck warm and protected from the cold and wind — here’s my recommendation.

Another obvious option is a scarf, but I personally am not a huge fan of them, and they aren’t great for action sports because they blow around too much.
Other Essentials to Pack for a Winter Ski Trip
These are cheap additions you can pack to help you stay warm in the snow! You can get a pack of 12 for less than $20.
Polarized Sunglasses
Snow is shockingly BRIGHT. I recommend getting a pair of polarized sunglasses to protect your eyes. I got these for less than $15! It’s smart to get cheaper ones in case they break in an inevitable snow wipe out 😉

Chapstick
The dry air and sun can take a toll on your lips, be sure to always have chapstick on hand!
Sunscreen
Again, the snow reflects the sun A LOT! Definitely put on some sunscreen before hitting the slopes! Neutrogena Hyrdo Boost Sunscreen is my personal favorite — it feels very moisturizing, but not greasy like most others.
GoPros are perfect for capturing any kind of action sports — especially skiing, snowboarding, tubing, or snowmobiling!

Curious what other kind of camera gear I bring on trips? Check out this post!
Waterproof/Shockproof Phone Case
Another item I’d recommend packing on your next ski trip is a shockproof, waterproof phone case.

Snow is wet and the chances of you falling at least once while skiing or snowboarding are high, so better be safe than sorry and protect your phone!
