St. Maarten/St. Martin is a beautiful Caribbean island and a great destination for couples and families alike! We wanted to stay in an all-inclusive resort and chose Sonesta Ocean Point Resort. We stayed for 6 nights in the Sunset Butler suite and had an amazing time! Keep reading for a full Sonesta Ocean Point Resort Review.

About Sonesta Ocean Point Resort
Sonesta Ocean Point Resort is a 5-star, all-inclusive, all-suite adults-only resort in Sint Maarten. Located near Maho Beach, it sits on the edge of the westernmost point of the island and has 130 suites with incredible ocean views!

Sonesta Ocean Point Resort sits adjacent to its sister property, Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, Casino & Spa which is more family-friendly. However, guests staying at Sonesta Ocean Point Resort also have access to the available restaurants and facilities at the family resort with the Stay at One, Play at Two program!

Getting to Sonesta Ocean Point Resort
To get to Sint Maarten, you will fly into the Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) – many major airlines fly here! From the airport, simply catch a cab outside and it’ll take you right to the front of the resort, and it’s less than a 5-minute drive.

Ps – for my Texas friends, starting in June there will now be a direct flight from DFW to SXM on American Airlines!

Sonesta Ocean Point Suites
To start my Sonesta Ocean Point Resort Review, we’ve got to talk about the suites! We stayed in the Sunset Butler Suite and as the name implies, we had an incredible sunset and ocean view! The rooms were nice and the bed was comfy. We had an ample size balcony that I definitely recommend you make use of, it’s so nice to sit out there with a morning coffee or mimosa.

Our suite had a giant bathtub and walk-in rainfall shower — which was the best shower I’ve ever had in a hotel! There was a separate closed room for the toilet which I always appreciate. It’s nice to be able to shower and get ready and someone can still use the toilet with privacy.
I still cannot get over this view from our balcony!!
They offer 11 types of suites, check them out here.
Butler Suites
We paid extra for the Butler Suite. Online it was advertised that they would basically handle everything for you, from booking onsite activities to arranging special requests, unpack your luggage, and many more. Dane, the butler we had on the first day was wonderful. We tried to use one of the others and didn’t find them as helpful and ended up having to book most things ourselves.
The Butler Suite also offers a bottle of wine every day in your room which was a draw for us… but in actuality, since the resort is all-inclusive, we didn’t really need it and weren’t in our room enough to drink them all!

In all fairness, we probably didn’t use the butler service as much as we could have, but it might still be a great option for you!

Sonesta Ocean Point Resort Review: Food and Drink
The resort has 3 à la carte restaurants and an additional five available to use at the adjacent sister property, Sonesta Maho Beach Resort.
Azul Restaurant
The signature Azul Restaurant at Sonesta Ocean Point Resort was definitely our favorite! The menu changes every day for lunch and dinner and it has the BEST view! Azul sits at the edge of the cliff overlooking Maho Bay and Mullet Bay, — it’s incredible.

Casa Blue
Directly above Azul is Casa Blue. They serve West Indian and Caribbean cuisine featuring light bites and drinks (we really liked the hummus). It’s a great place to grab a drink and or snack throughout the day. It also has one of the best sunset views in the place!

The Point Restaurant
We had dinner at The Point Restaurant one night and it was great as well! Our table was right on the edge and directly overlooked the water. They serve a five-course Italian menu and are only open on certain nights for dinner so I recommend planning ahead!

Ocean Terrace
We had a buffet lunch at Ocean Terrace — the main buffet restaurant at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort. It was okay, but I definitely preferred Azul and The Point restaurants. The view was still lovely:

Additional Restaurants
Sonesta Ocean Point Resort guests also have access to the restaurants at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort. Although we didn’t get to try all of them, these were the others:
- Palms Grill – offers al fresco dining with a variety of Caribbean specialties for lunch. In the evening it turns into the Lava Rock dining feature which lets you cook your own meal on individual hot volcanic stone plates! We would have loved to try this, but it’s only open on certain nights and it didn’t work with our schedule.
- Ascot Pub + Sports Bar – offers pub fare and has lots of TVs for watching sports
- Jing’s Kitchen – a gourmet Asian cuisine buffet
- Napoli Pizzeria + Paninoteca
- Maho Café – located in the Maho lobby that offers coffees, teas, pastries, etc.
Room Service at Sonesta Ocean Point Resort
I highly recommend taking advantage of room service too! A lot of times I find hotel room service food isn’t as good, but that is not the case here! We loved ordering breakfast in the mornings and enjoying it out on our balcony!

Pro tip: if you want mimosas, order orange juice and a bottle of champagne instead of just the one glass 😉
Bars at Sonesta Ocean Point Resort
There is no shortage of bars at the resort! Both pools have a dedicated bar service. Our favorite bar on the property was the Sunset Lounge + Bar. It has the best views on the property in my opinion! It doesn’t open till later, so I recommend grabbing a drink from another bar or room service and heading up there to watch the sunset at least once on your trip! The Sunset Lounge truly is gorgeous — even at night!

If you’re lucky enough to have a firework show scheduled during your stay, this is THE spot to watch it from! Front row seats and an unobstructed view!
Pools at Sonesta Ocean Point Resort
There are two exclusive pools at Sonesta Ocean Point Resort, as well as the semi-private pool attached to the swim-out suites. The Point Pool overlooks Maho Beach and the bay and gives you a great view of the planes landing at the airport! There are also cabanas available.

The Edge pool has its own little “beach” and was the more relaxing of the two in my opinion. It also overlooks the ocean and is right on the edge — as the name implies 😉

The Oasis is an additional pool at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort that is more family-friendly. We were specifically drawn to Sonesta Ocean Point Resort for its adults-only policy, so we didn’t really explore the Maho Beach side of the resort.

Sonesta Ocean Point Resort Beach
I had many people ask “does Sonesta Ocean Point have beach access?” and the answer is yes! It has direct access to Maho Beach. The water is beautiful and great for swimming. Just beware of the planes 😉

There’s also Mullet Bay Beach on the other side of the resort but that’s a 10-minute walk outside of the property and past Maho Village.
Amenities
Sonesta Ocean Point Resort has several other amenities in addition to the wonderful restaurants and pools.
Casino Royale has over 21,000 square feet of gaming, 400 slot machines, and bingo all day!
The Serenity Spa is located inside Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and offers a variety of spa treatments, including massages, facials, and more! There is also an outdoor massage package available at Serenity Point Gazebo which is perched on a cliff at Sonesta Ocean Point Resort with sea views.

They also have a state-of-the-art fitness center, plenty of meeting and banquet space, and the ability to host weddings — how dreamy would it be getting married under this gazebo?!

Even at night, this resort is stunning!

You can also book tours and excursions (operated by Nexus Tours) through the resort for an additional fee. We booked a catamaran and snorkeling tour and it was wonderful! They picked us up right outside the resort and dropped us off at the end of the day too.

The packaged tours are exclusive to Sonesta Ocean Point Resort and Sonesta Maho Beach Resort guests.
COVID Precautions
I have to say, I was thoroughly impressed with Sonesta Ocean Point Resort’s COVID precautions and safety measures. To get into St. Maarten in the first place you have to show a negative COVID test. Once we arrived at the resort, our temperatures were taken and there was ample hand sanitizer around the resort. In fact, you are required to sanitize your hands every time you enter one of the restaurants or bars.
Sonesta Ocean Point Resort also organizes your return COVID test. You simply have to go to the front desk the day before you need to get a test (usually a day or two before you check out), register, and then pay $65 each. The day of your test, you walk across the street from the resort into Maho Village and get it done real quick!

Pro Tip: Go a little before your scheduled time, the line gets pretty long but it moves quickly!
